1903: Relived: Stage 1 Of The First Tour
On the 19th of July 1903 60 cyclists left Paris for the maiden stage of the very first Tour de France, racing 467km through the night to the line in Lyon. 116 years later, two modern-day riders attempted to recreate the feat of endurance using bikes and equipment from the early 20th century to fully experience the highs and lows of the early Tour pioneers. Endurance cyclist Mark Beaumont and GCN presenter James Lowsley-Williams are pushed to the limits of their physical and mental ability, struggling with the midsummer heat, bikes borrowed from museums and a lack of sleep. How did they compare to the Tour’s first heroes?

Magazine journalist Renji Himura is suspicious of the corrupt nature of Japanese politics and has uncovered a number of parliamentary scandals in his quest to clean up the political scene. His feud with his father, Tetsuya Himura, a member of the House of Representatives of the ruling Republican Party of Japan, reinforces Renji's aversion to political power struggles. Tetsuya is a member of the party's largest faction, the Teikankai, along with his ally Yuichi Tanigawa, who was elected in the same year, but becomes increasingly dissatisfied with the methods of faction chairman and former Prime Minister Shiro Oda. In order to regain the prime minister's office, Oda has brought in Kojiro Suzuki, the current prime minister, and is building a puppet government. Then, Renji receives a tip-off from a mysterious person.

Renji's father's death brings an end to the feud between father and son, and Tanigawa persuades him to keep the truth of the allegations to himself, and he decides to follow his father's wishes and become a politician. At the same time, Prime Minister Suzuki dissolved the House of Representatives and called a general election, as ordered by political fixer Oda. With Tanigawa's support, Renji launches his own political activities, but is outnumbered by his opponent, prefectural assemblyman Horiuchi. Renji is again contacted by a mysterious person.
