A Salvation Army person is shot dead during a street meeting, and police suspect the killer may have gotten the wrong man. Patrick Allenby, whom another Salvo was to testify against, is found to be in the clear, until another Salvo is shot.

A middle aged invalid is discovered dead in her bedroom and Homicide detectives find themselves on the trail of a demented killer. Widow Mrs. Anstey befriends a mild mannered man, Albert Fisher, in a cemetery, who is actually the embittered killer whose motives are complicated by his belief that his actions are mercy killings. Fisher's daughter Marjorie gradually realizes the situation and begins to fear for her own life.

Sen. Det. Delaney, transferred from the Crime Car Squad, finds his first Homicide case a gruelling challenge: investigating the brutal murder of a young woman, Rhonda Edwards, who is found strangled in a park.

Episode 15 - Grains of Sand

Eight year old Barry Neal is kidnapped, and callous attempts are made to extort money for his return. Sen. Det. Patterson, against his own training and judgement, becomes personally involved in the distress of the parents. The boy is later found murdered, and when Patterson catches up with the killer he nearly drowns him as they fight on the beach. Patterson later resigns from the Homicide squad.

When a Ballarat bus pulls into the Melbourne terminus, Alfred Dickens' body is found slumped on the back seat. Police are left with two methods of identifying the murderer. His grand-daughter's disappearance complicates the investigation.

Episode 13 - The Hermit

When 20-year-old Cindy Scott is found murdered in the country, the main suspect is a hermit, Dudley Roberts, living in a nearby shack. When he confesses, police doubt his guilt due to questionable details in his statement.

Ernie Clarke's wife, mother and daughter are found murdered by an axe in their home, and Ernie is critically injured. Ernie's ex-crim brother is a suspect, but the case's solution hinges on whether Ernie will recover to answer questions.

Two Fisheries Inspectors disappear near a small coastal town, and one body is found later. His death looks accidental but the local police Sergeant calls in Homicide when he becomes aware of the peculiar attitude shown by the fishermen.

Tragedy hits a caravan park when John and Elaine Harvey, asleep in their caravan, are asphyxiated by gas. Detectives are confronted with a number of possible suspects, until a surprise turn of events reveals the truth.

Sister Cameron is shocked when a man's body is blatantly dumped in front of her at the hospital. A doctor later tells detectives that he witnessed two men driving away wearing boiler suits.

Insp. Fox sees two men fighting on a roof top while out dining, one man falls to his death. The other man is arrested and Fox is the main witness at the trial, but the defence's case puts Fox's credibility into question.

John Mason, a wealthy businessman, is brutally bashed to death. Detectives find a lead to his murder with the discovery of two wills - and a great deal of animosity among the relatives.

When the Watson home is broken into, both Helen and her husband Michael are chloroformed. Helen dies, setting off a chain of events which results in another death and a shooting.
